Philadelphia-born soprano Julia Mulholland has appeared in numerous opera productions and recitals throughout the East Coast, Midwest and San Francisco Bay Area. Julia is currently an extra chorus member with the San Francisco Opera, and she will be performing with the chorus in Beethoven’s 9th Symphony this coming October 2024. Julia is also the regular cantor and choir section leader for Mission Dolores Basilica, the sixth of 21 California missions and a major historical site in the heart of the Mission District in San Francisco. This coming December 2024 she will be the soprano soloist for Mozart’s Vesperae solennes de Confessore with the Mission Dolores Basilica Choir and will be traveling to Italy with them in September of 2025. In February of 2025, Julia will be singing the role of the Countess in Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro with Pocket Opera.
In recent years, Julia has been seen as Mabel, in Lamplighters Music Theatre’s production of Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Pirates of Penzance and Elsie Maynard in their production of The Yeomen of the Guard. Other roles include: Musetta (La Bohème), Susanna (Le Nozze Di Figaro), Laetitia (The Old Maid and the Thief), Adele (Die Fledermaus), Casilda (Gondoliers), Constance (Dialogues des Carmélites), Dew Fairy (Hänsel und Gretel), Belinda (Dido and Aeneas).
In 2015 Julia sang the role of Pamina with excerpts from Mozart's The Magic Flute as a teaching artist with the San Francisco Opera’s outreach program, Opera à la Carte.
While living in Chicago after grad school, Julia sang six seasons with the Chicago Symphony Chorus and was a participant in the 2010 2x Grammy Award winning recording of Verdi’s Messa da Requiem under Riccardo Muti.
Outside of singing, Julia is a busy mom of three and learning to become a scheduling magician! She is also the youngest of 11 children and never tires of a full household. In her spare time, she teaches and runs the school choir at her daughter’s school, and is the Chair of the Board of Directors at her son’s preschool.
